Polar Bear and Cub is part of Moorcroft Pottery’s Pole to Pole collection and was designed by acclaimed ceramic artist Kerry Goodwin. Rendered in Moorcroft’s signature tubelining technique and gloss glaze, the piece features a mother polar bear and her cub poised together on a stylised Arctic base of cool aqua, deep black, and warm amber tones.
The composition captures a tender moment of parental watchfulness: the mother sits upright, alert and slightly turned, while the cub nestles against her side, its expression imbued with curiosity and trust. Goodwin’s design is minimalist yet expressive, with subtle inky shading suggesting muscle tone and the soft contours of polar fur. The base introduces abstract colour blocks that evoke ice floes and shifting tundra without distracting from the pale, elegant forms of the animals themselves.
Like the rest of the Pole to Pole collection, this model speaks to themes of environmental fragility and animal kinship. It is both a celebration of Arctic wildlife and a gentle reminder of its vulnerability. With its sleek lines, refined detail and quiet presence, Polar Bear and Cub is a striking example of Moorcroft’s continuing commitment to artistry and storytelling through ceramics.
