In Greek mythology Moly was a planet with magical powers. It was given to Odysseus by Hermes to protect him from Circe (who knew a thing or two about herbs and potions). Homer described it thus: ‘the root was black, while the flower was as white as milk; the gods call it Moly, dangerous for a mortal man to pluck from the soil, but not for the deathless gods. All lies within their power’.

What has this to do with a five-inch conical vase from Moorcroft Pottery designer Emma Bossons? Well, in recent years the common snowdrop has been proposed as the true Moly. Emma decorates her vase with a frieze of white snowdrops, drooping or open, on a black background with panes of glowing blue.

Moly Vase comes in a limited edition of 20.
