The Romani word for January is Iveskero, meaning ‘month of the snows’. It is one of the darkest months of the year in the northern hemisphere, with the sun rising late in the morning and setting early in the evening. During much of January, the UK is swathed in darkness with only the first snowdrops of the year to add some much-needed light and brightness to the world.

Moorcroft Pottery designer Rachel Bishop’s 3-inch Iveskero Vase depicts silent flakes of snow falling gently on to delicate young snowdrops.
