One of the most effective ways to support wildlife is to create a garden pond. In February, the water’s surface may seem still, but beneath it, a hidden world is preparing to stir. Early signs of plant growth emerge as the shoots of bulrushes and reed mace push through the water, marking the first changes of the year.

A slight rise in temperature signals hibernating frogs to wake, while toads begin their return to breeding grounds, heralding the renewal of Pond Life as the seasonal cycle begins once more.
