Morris & Co.’s Orange Tree embroidered panel (c.1923) featured a lushly adorned tree heavy with ripe oranges, set above a vibrant tapestry of irises, peonies, primroses, and tulips in full bloom.

Traditionally, the orange tree symbolised fertility and love, and Rachel’s deep appreciation for the Arts and Crafts movement is vividly reflected in her miniature interpretation. Here, pale blue acanthus-style leaves gently undulate beneath the tree, creating a wave-like effect that is both harmonious and immersive, drawing the viewer into a balanced yet dynamic composition.
