Millside Jug JU7 by Moorcroft Pottery designer Rachel Bishop.

In 1914, renowned architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh left Glasgow and relocated to his new home, Millside, in the village of Walberswick on the Suffolk coast. Seeking peace and seclusion, he settled in this small artists’ colony, dedicating himself to watercolour painting. During this period, Mackintosh produced some of the finest flower studies of his career.

At Millside, Mackintosh would wander the country lanes and tend to his small flower garden. His designs consistently reflected his lifelong fascination with plant forms. It is these floral motifs that served as inspiration for Rachel Bishop in her design of the Millside Jug JU7 for Moorcroft Pottery.

Bishop’s creation captures the essence of Mackintosh’s stylised tulips and intricate lattice work. The jug exudes a jewel-like quality, which is beautifully enhanced by her masterful use of coloured tubelining slip, adding depth and vibrancy to the piece.
