The wren is a small, compact brown bird with a fine bill, rounded wings, and a short, narrow tail often held upright. It is the most widespread breeding bird in the UK and a frequent visitor to gardens.

In April, the breeding season begins, and the wren’s remarkably loud song carries through hedgerows and undergrowth as the male sings to attract a mate. He selects a suitable hollow in which to construct a nest, which the female later lines carefully with feathers.
