De Rosa Ceramics
Every piece of De Rosa is the result of unique craftsmanship and artistic skill.
Hand carved and hand painted in Uruguay, these rinconada sculptures are accented with platinum, gold and vibrant enamel glazes.
Each ceramic figurine is skilfully carved and painted by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
Each of our De Rosa pieces comes in a gift box.
A Family Business
Founded in 1945, De Rosa is a family-run workshop with a long and distinguished history in ceramic art. From its home in Canelones, Uruguay, it has developed a style admired for its vivid colour, sculptural form and finely worked detail. De Rosa figurines, often known as Rinconada, are instantly recognisable for their hand-carved textures, expressive modelling and the striking use of platinum, gold and rich enamel glazes. Because each piece is made and finished by hand, every sculpture has its own individual character.
This careful process, carried out entirely within the De Rosa workshop, gives each creation a sense of personality and presence. Over the decades, the company has earned an international reputation for ceramics that are not merely decorative, but deeply distinctive.
The Process of Creation
What makes De Rosa especially distinctive is the hand-carving. Skilled artisans etch each piece individually, creating the intricate textures and subtle surface details that give every sculpture its character.
The figurines are then fired in the kiln at around 1000°C. After this first firing, they are painted by hand using vibrant ceramic slips and enamel glazes, which bring depth, brilliance and life to the carved design. A second firing fixes the colours and completes this stage of the process.
The finishing touch is the application of gold and platinum, used to highlight selected details and lend each piece its unmistakable richness. Before leaving the workshop, every figurine undergoes a final quality inspection. Limited editions are supplied with a certificate of authenticity confirming their origin and craftsmanship.
