Chloe describes the complex process of creating Raku, an intricate firing method adapted from an ancient Japanese technique:
‘The Raku piece is fired fired up to around 1000°C. It's then taken from the kiln while still glowing and placed in a container of sawdust and wood shavings. This instantly combusts and the shock of the air causes the glaze to craze, at which point it is covered and left to cool. The smoke from the burning sawdust penetrates the crazing, creating the distinctive black lines.’
