Miniature Months of the Year 2023
2023 – The British Hedgerow Collection
For 2023 Moorcroft are creating a new collection of 12 monthly miniatures by designer Nicola Slaney. This attractive series gives a glimpse of life in Britain’s hedgerows, each captured in a vase that can be held in the palm of your hand.
British hedgerows offer a habitat and vital food source to a range of fascinating creatures. Hedgerows have been part of the British landscape for thousands of years – some of the most ancient examples date from Saxon times. Most were planted between 1650 and 1850, and form the basis of the patchwork of c.500,000 km of hedgerow that we see today.
Hedgerows often have a wide variety of trees, shrubs and flowers within them, offering food in the form of leaves, flower nectar, berries and nuts as well as nesting and burrowing sites for small animals. Hedgerows also help to link habitats across farmland that otherwise offers little protection for wildlife. Sadly, Britain has lost half its hedgerows since World War II but designer Nicola Slaney is championing those that remain, and the wildlife and plants that can be discovered within them.
